Christmas in China

Just a reminder that our class is studying China for Kids Fest. They celebrate Christmas with a "tree of light" and decorate it with paper flowers, lanterns and paper chains. The children are working on paper chains in class!

Here is more info on Christmas in China if you are interested: http://www.jackiechankids.com/files/Christmas_in_China.htm

Lids please

Please send a plastic or metal lid from a jar (peanut butter, jam, etc) in with your child so that he/she can create a holiday surprise.

Red Plate Volunteers Needed

If you would like to volunteer for Red Plate Day please let me, Antje or the teachers know. We are looking for a volunteer for 11am - 1pm on a Friday (to be coordinated with the teachers) in October, November, January, February, March and May. From 11 - 12 one teacher will leave and from 12 -1 the other will leave, so you will be volunteering for lunch/recess with one of the teachers while the other enjoys an hour-long lunch. This is a wonderful way to get your volunteer hours and spend time in your child's class.

Email me at dlstamant@gmail.com or Antje at antje_herron@hotmail.com or let one of the teachers know. I'll also put a sign up sheet on Mrs. Murray's door if you prefer to sign up that way.

Thanks for supporting our wonderful teachers!

Reduce, reuse, recycle: water bottles. napkins, spoon/fork

In order to use fewer paper products in the classroom Mrs. Murray has suggested the following tips for packing your child's lunch:

1. Send a water bottle to school with your child to reduce the amount of paper cups used (stainless is great).

2. Pack a napkin (cloth if you like) and needed silverware/plastic ware with your child for lunch to reduce the number of napkins and plastic ware used.

Thanks so much for helping us to reduce, reuse, and recycle!

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered!

We would like every family to bring in a cake (or several mini cakes) for the cake walk. These cakes can be SMALL. You can make a few cupcakes, make 2 round single cakes, cut a rectangular cake in fours, etc. If you are already making a big Black Forest cake if you could put a tiny bit of the batter into a small pan for a mini give-away cake that would be appreciated.

Boys, please bring in a white t-shirt for your costume.

We still need someone to help with clean up and another person or 2 to make a big black forest cake if possible, but otherwise we're all set!
